Your academic performance will be observed during placements. If you decide to write CAT, during selection, your 10th and 12th board performance is considered. If you manage to get really good grades (say above 8.5 CGPA) it'll compensate and your previous performance won't affect your chances that much. So, try and focus on your engineering credits and academics.
