define tortional stress, torstinal pendulam and its uses
Hello!
The shear stress set up in the shaft when equal and opposite torques are applied to the ends of a shaft about its axis is called torsional stress. A circular metallic dis disc suspended using a thin wire that executes torsional oscillation is called torsional pendulum.
Uses - Rigidity modulus of the wire, moment of inertia of the disc and moment of inertia of an irregular body.
ALL THE BEST. Hope the answer was helpful.
Thank You
Hello there,
Torsional shear stress or Torsional stress is the shear stress produced in the shaft due to the twisting. This twisting in the shaft is caused by the couple acting on it.
Consider a disk suspended from a torsion wire attached to its centre. This setup is known as a Torsion pendulum. A torsion wire is essentially inextensible, but is free to twist about its axis.
Torsion pendulums are often used for time-keeping purposes. For instance, the balance wheel in a mechanical wristwatch is a torsion pendulum in which the restoring torque is provided by a coiled spring.
Hope it helps.
