Using conservation of angular momentum

2/5 mR²w= const.

I(w), wR², 2πfR², R²/T  =const.

so, T is directly proportional to square of radius

Now if radius is decreased to half then,

T'= T/4

therefore which is 24/4

which implies that the time period will be 6 hours.
