Hello Aspirant,
I hope you are doing well.
Power is defined as an individual's ability to influence the behaviours, beliefs, or conduct (behaviour) of others in social science and politics. Not to be confused with authoritarianism, the term authority refers to power that is viewed as legitimate or socially approved by the social system. Power can be viewed as wicked or unjust, but it can also be viewed as beneficial, as something inherited or given for the sake of achieving humanistic goals that will serve, move, and empower people. "Power is a tremendous risk in the hands of the immature, nasty, or emotionally diseased," writes Abraham Maslow. The factors of dependency between two entities and the environment, in general, determine power. The exercise of power does not have to entail the use of force or the threat of force (coercion). The concept of "soft power," as opposed to "hard power," is an example of employing power without oppression. The ethical instrumentality of power in corporate environments is achievement, and as such, it is a zero-sum game. Much of the current sociological argument regarding power has centred on the topic of its means to facilitate – that is, power as a way to empower as well as constrain or hinder social acts.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!
