I don't understand with the concept non university subject. You give exams for the alotted courses to you per semester. You register for them.

But anyway if you got a backlog then you have to clear it. if It is a honors subject or a minor paper then you won't get that extra designation but you will get cleared with your degree. but if it is in your regular semester then you will have the backlog and you won't get your degree until you clear it.
