JEE mains (Joint entrance examination) is conducted for admission into NITs,IIITs and GFTIs.
JEE mains is also a gateway exam for JEE advance a candidate has to qualify JEE mains in order to appear for JEE advance and JEE advance is conducted for admission in IITs (Indian institute of Technology) which is the best engineering colleges in our country and well renowned in abroad too.
Some candidates also called IIT JEE as a short reference to JEE advance.
I hope this helps.
