Hi
Actually,
There's not much difference, the only difference is that PGDM is a post graduate diploma course while MBA is a post graduate degree course.
Here's the detail:-
-------------------)MBA i.e Master of business administration is a degree course , and being a degree it is little more theoretical
------------------)PGDM is graduate diploma in management i.e it is a diploma course, PGDM is accredited by Association of Indian Universities which makes it equivalent to MBA, it is more practical, even the most prestigious IIMS offers PGDM. Though now some of the IIMs also have started offering MBA.
So, there's not much difference between MBA and PGDM , the only thing is that MBA is a degree course while PGDM is a diploma course , also when it comes to job then there's no difference in the way companies treat a PGDM and an MBA , even your Career growth is similar for both the courses and it largely depends upon your performance.
So both MBA and PGDM have more or less equal scope and opportunities , and thus, you can go for either of mba or pgdm , what matters is the college or the B-school from which you pursue them , brand value of the college, its past placement records, industry exposure provided by the college etc because your starting package and placement after completion of the course is mainly dependent on college’s name and brand, not whether it offers MBA or PGDM.
In case,
If you want to which one is better than,
MBA has a little bit edge over PGDM as it has global acceptability for employment, the Top B-schools in the world offer MBA degree and not PGDM which is diploma. Also , if you want to go further studies in abroad then foreign universities require MBA degree instead of PGDM diploma to offer you admission in Ph.D or Doctoral programme.
If you are thinking,
what to choose between pgdm and mbs?
Then,
If you are getting both MBA and Pgdm in similar colleges then prefer MBA over PGDM but if you are getting pgdm in some good colleges like IIMs then you should go for it rather than MBA in lower B - schools.

Thank you
hi student
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) are both management courses at the Master’s level. Both the courses have a commercial orientation and there is not much of a difference between the two. “MBA and PGDM are both business-orientated courses. The main aim of both the courses is to equip a person who wants to move up in the hierarchy or enter the management field,”
While both the courses have the same outcomes in terms of employment perspective, there are some subtle differences.
At the end of PGP and PGDM courses, candidates are offered a Diploma whereas, at the end of MBA programs, candidates receive a Degree.
Hello Aspirant,
PGDM is a two year diploma programme. MBA course is also for 2 years. However, MBA course generally focuses on development of the theoretical concepts and makes a student to possess technical knowledge, whereas PGDM goes mainly in the stream of practicality, MBA is affordable, whereas PGDM is more costly programme.
Hope this helps you,
Good Luck, thank you :)
