Yes there is provision of lateral entry in various institutions.Go and search a gud college and apply for admission as lateral entry and get migration certificate from your previous collegeand go and take admission.

It is possible for only diploma students, which is called lateral entry btech.. By giving the entrance, they should directly enter into the 2nd year btech compare to others...
Otherwise nothing is admit into the 2nd year directly...

If you have done polytechnic/diploma in Engineering then you can get direct admission in colleges based on it.
Some colleges which give direct admission in the second year are as follows:
• VIT Vellore University
• College of Engineering, Pune
• VJTI, Mumbai
• BITS Pilani
• VIT, Pune
• Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engg & Tech, Nanded
• L&T Institute of technology
• Sardar Patel college of engineering

I got your query. If you had persue diploma in any field suppose in mechanical you did that and you need to apply for only mechanical in any engineering colleges. Every state will conduct a test like this CET. if you can take care of the marks then they'll give seat.
