Solution : Average speed = Total distance covered ÷ Total time taken
Total distance covered:–
= {(2 × 40) + (9/2 × 60) + (7/2 × 70)} km
= {80 + 270 + 245} km
= 595 km
Total time taken:–
= 2 + 9/2 + 7/2
= (4 + 9 +7) ÷ 2
= 20 ÷ 2
= 10 hours
Therefore,
average speed:–
= 595 ÷ 10
= 59.5 km/h
Hence, first option is correct.
