Question : Directions: A man drives his car 50 km towards the eastward direction. He turned right and went for 30 km. Then he turned west and drove for 10 km. How far is he from the starting point?

Solution : Firstly, we will draw the diagram as per the given instructions –

Here, A is the starting point and D is the finishing point of the car. AD is the distance from the starting point.
By applying the Pythagoras theorem –
(AD) 2 = (AE) 2 + (ED) 2
(AD) 2 = (40) 2 + (30) 2
(AD) 2 = 1600 + 900
(AD) 2 = 2500
AD = 50 km

So, the man is 50 km from the starting point. Hence, the first option is correct.
