Solution : Firstly, we will draw the diagram as per the given instructions –

Here, X is the starting point and Y is the endpoint.
XA = 7 km; AB = 5 km; BC = 5 km; CY = 5 km
Now, find the distance between the starting point and the endpoint –
XY = XA + AY = 7 + 5 = 12 km

So, the person had to move 12 km towards the north to reach point X. Hence, the first option is correct.
