Question : Directions: After interchanging the given two numbers and two signs what will be the values of equations (I) and (II) respectively?
× and +, 3 and 9
I. 7 × 9 – 8 ÷ 2 + 3
II. 4 × 9 – 3 + 8 ÷ 2
Option 1: 0, 1
Option 2: –26, –29
Option 3: 6, 0
Option 4: 12, 13
Correct Answer: –26, –29
Solution :
Given:
× and +, 3 and 9
I. 7 × 9 – 8 ÷ 2 + 3
II. 4 × 9 – 3 + 8 ÷ 2
Equation I:
7 × 9 – 8 ÷ 2 + 3
On replacing the given symbols and numbers in the given equation, we get –
= 7 + 3 – 8 ÷ 2 × 9
= 7 + 3 – 4 × 9
= 7 + 3 – 36
= 10 – 36
= –26
Equation II:
4 × 9 – 3 + 8 ÷ 2
On replacing the given symbols and numbers in the given equation, we get –
= 4 + 3 – 9 × 8 ÷ 2
= 4 + 3 – 9 × 4
= 4 + 3 – 36
= 7 – 36
= –29
So, –26 and –29 are the required answers to the given equations. Hence, the second option is correct.
