Solution : The sentence can be improved using the third option.

The phrase "clearly understand" should be replaced with "understand clearly" as the adverbs should be used in such a way that they modify the verb. Here, the latter is a better phrasing because we want to emphasise the quality of understanding, which should be clear and concise. Thus, the adverb should come after the verb i.e., understand . So, the third option provides the correct word order.

Therefore, the correct sentence is, "I want you to understand clearly that excuses will not do."
