Solution : Firstly, we will draw the diagram as per the given instructions –

Here, AB = 3 km and BC = 4 km
AC is the distance between the starting and the finishing point.
By applying the Pythagoras theorem –
⇒ (AC) 2 = (AB) 2 + (BC) 2 = (3) 2 + (4) 2 = 9 + 16 = 25
⇒ AC = √25 = 5 km

So, Karthik is 5 km away from the starting point. Hence, the first option is correct.
