Question : Directions: Prince drives 8 km towards the east from point A. He takes a right turn and drives 3 km. Again, he takes a right turn and drives 5 km. He takes a right turn and drives 8 km. Finally, he takes a left turn and drives 3 km to reach point B. How far and towards which direction should he drive now to reach point A again?

Option 1: 3 km towards the west

Option 2: 5 km towards the south

Solution : Firstly, we will draw the diagram as per the given instructions –

Here, A is the starting point and B is the endpoint.
AE = 8 km; ED = 3 km; DC = 5 km; CF = 8 km; FB = 3 km
Now, find the distance between the starting point and the endpoint –
AB = FO = CF – ED = 8 – 3 = 5 km

So, Prince should drive 5 km towards the south to reach point A. Hence, the second option is correct.
