Correct Answer: 7

Solution : Given:
The ratio of the present age of father and son = 5:1
The ratio of age of father and son, seven years later = 3:1

Let the present age the father and son be 5x, x.
So, seven years later their ages will be→(5x + 7), (x + 7)
According to the question,
⇒ (5x + 7)/(x + 7) = 3/1
⇒ 5x + 7 = 3(x + 7)
⇒ 5x + 7 = 3x + 21
⇒ 5x – 3x = 21 – 7
⇒ 2x = 14
⇒ x = 7

Therefore, the son's present age is x = 7 × 1 = 7 years. Hence, the second option is correct.
