Question : Directions: Three statements are given followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
All beards are nails.
Some nails are rings.
All rings are pendants.
Conclusions:
I. All rings can never be nails.

Solution : The possible Venn diagram according to the given statements is as follows –

Let's analyse the conclusions –
Conclusion (I): All rings can never be nails – According to the Venn diagram, the circles representing rings and nails overlap and have a part of their area in common which means some rings are nails. Therefore, all rings can never be nails is a false conclusion.
Conclusion (II): Some beards are rings – According to the Venn diagram, there is no definite relation between beards and rings. Therefore, some beards are rings is a false conclusion.
Conclusion (III): Some nails are pendants – According to the Venn diagram, the circles representing nails and pendants overlap and have a part of their area in common which means some nails are pendants. Therefore, some nails are pendants is a true conclusion.

So, only conclusion III follows. Hence, the second option is correct.
