Question : Directions: Two friends, Yash and Mita, start walking from two different points. Yash starts from point A and walks 14 m towards the west and then turns left and walks 20 m. Next, he turns right and walks 21 m to reach point C. Mita starts from point B and walks 22 m towards the east, and then she turns right and walks 20 m. After that, she turns left and walks 21 m to reach point C. Find the shortest distance between point A and point B.

Solution : Firstly, we will draw the diagram as per the given instructions.

Now, find the shortest distance between the points A and B.


According to the question –
AE = 14 m; ED = 21 + 21 = 42 m; DB = 22 m
The shortest distance between the points A and B = AE + ED +DB
14 + 42 + 22 = 78 m

So, the shortest distance between A to B is 78 m. Hence, the third option is correct.
