Question : Directions: Two Statements are given followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
All crows are birds.
Some parrots are birds.
Conclusions:
I. No crow is a parrot.
II. Some crows are parrots.
Option 1: Only conclusion I follows
Option 2: Either conclusion I or II follows
Option 3: Both conclusions I and II follow
Option 4: Only conclusion II follows
Correct Answer: Either conclusion I or II follows
Solution :
According to the given statements, the Venn diagram is given below –
Let's analyse the conclusions –
Conclusion (I):
No crow is a parrot – From the Venn diagram, it is clear that no relation is defined between crows and parrots. So, this conclusion doesn't follow.
Conclusion (II):
Some crows are parrots – From the Venn diagram, it is clear that circles of crows and parrots don't overlap. So, some crows are parrots not true.
But after analysing both conclusions it is clear that there may be some crows who are parrots or maybe no crow is a parrot.
So, Either conclusion I or conclusion II follows. Hence, the second option is correct.
