Question : Directions: Vimla starts from her home and walks 30 m towards the north and then turns right and walks 40 m. Then, she turns left and walks 35 m. After that, she turns right and walks 40 m. From there, she turns right and walks 85 m. Then, she again turns right and walks 50 m. From there, she finally turns right and walks 20 m. How far is she from her home now and in which direction with reference to her home?

Option 1: 30 m, South

Option 2: 20 m, West

Option 3: 100 m, East

Solution : According to the instructions given, the diagram is as follows –

Here, O is the starting point and G is the finishing point and OG is the total distance from the starting point.

OA = 30m; AB = 40m; BC = 35m; CD = 40m; DE = 85m; EF = 50m; FG = 20m
And, OG = AB + CD – EF
OG = 40 + 40 – 50 = 80 – 50 = 30m

So, Vimla is 30m away from her home now and in the east direction. Hence, the fourth option is correct.
