Correct Answer: + and ×

Solution : Given:
45 – 5 + 96 ÷ 8 × 24 = 9

Replace the given symbols according to the options one by one with the original symbols in the given equation.
First option: + and –
45 – 5 + 96 ÷ 8 × 24 = 9
⇒ 45 + 5 – 96 ÷ 8 × 24
= 50 – 12 × 24
= 50 – 288
= –238 ≠ 9
Second option: × and –
45 – 5 + 96 ÷ 8 × 24 = 9
⇒ 45 × 5 + 96 ÷ 8 – 24
= 225 + 12 – 24
= 213 ≠ 9
Third option: ÷ and –
45 – 5 + 96 ÷ 8 × 24 = 9
⇒ 45 ÷ 5 + 96 – 8 × 24
= 9 + 96 – 192
= –90 ≠ 9
Fourth option: + and ×
45 – 5 + 96 ÷ 8 × 24 = 9
⇒ 45 – 5 × 96 ÷ 8 + 24
= 45 – 60 + 24
= 9

Here, only the fourth option satisfies the R.H.S. of the given equation. Hence, the fourth option is correct.
