Hello,

Women officers in armed forces have the option to take up permanent commission through the Short Service Commission. Under the SSC scheme, women are allowed entry into Army Service Corps, Ordnance, Education Corps, JAG, Engineers, Signals, Intelligence and Electronics & Mechanical Engineering branches of the Army. Only in certain streams like Judge Advocate General, Army Education Corps (AEC) and the Military Police women are given permanent commission. SSC women officers in these branches now have the option to opt for permanent commission and achieve higher ranks like Colonels, Brigadiers, Major Generals and Lieutenant Generals.

Thank you!

hello shruthi gulia,

yes,the girls can get into permanent commission after the end of short service commission in defence/army force.some years ago, permanent service commission for the girls will be the toughest thing for the women officers.but now we all are having many options for permanent service.

i would like to remember this fact that,

on the independence day,our PM has said the women officers who all are been selected through short service commission will be able to takeup the chance for permanent commission.

important fact:

in our india, many women are interested to give their whole life and ready to serve their country.for that, they were got selected to the indian defence through the short service commission.now itself there are around 4k women officers are under defence(SSC)

ssc:

short service commission means providing service for short time it is usually 5 years.the important fact behind the ssc is,to maintain the youthful force.this 5 years may extended to 10 or 14 years.after that you'll having threee options:

  • more extension(3-4 years):

in which service duration, you may resign your job at any time.

  • retirement:

after ssc,you may get retired or opt out of defence.

  • PERMANENT commission:

there is no rules and definite numbers for the permanent commission selection.it is purely depend on merit list of candidates who all are eligible for permanent commission.

reasons for not providing permanent comission for women:

  • physical strength comparatively low than male candidates
  • male candidates who are passing in the exam are in very high numbers
  • lack of vacancies

problems faced by female candidates and officers after service:

  • they are not eligible to have pension money, since it is given only for the cadets who have been worked for 20 years
  • didn't get many opportunities in civil sections after service(age qualification wont be satisfied)

all the best!

I Hope this information will be useful to you.

if you need additional information, let us know to help you.

Thank you!!!:)
