Do I need some special skills to pursue journalism and mass comm?

Just to add on to the answer stated below, Journalism and Mass Comm are more than just writing and communication. Even if your writing and speaking skills are average, you can pursue this course. The institutes do not require exceptional skills from their candidates. Instead what they look for is passion, and interest in this creative and unique field of study. Some of the basic skills, as candidates you must have are,

  • Writing and Grammar Skills- All you need is to have knowledge of structuring an article with good correct grammar. This is what you might have learnt during your schooling.
  • Technical Skills- Most of the writing nowadays is done on the computers. Hence a basic knowledge of computers like word editors, usage of internet and such is considered a pre-requisite.
  • Communication and Social Skills- Basic communication skills and networking skills are important o generate story ideas, to receive tips for a story.
  • Some research skills, and passion.
