Coming to your question, for the first semester, most probably you won't be needing a laptop.

So there's no need for you to carry a laptop for the first semester.

And then again every college have their own rules. So better you should check with your college

WELL, BEING A FIRST YEAR STUDENT I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU WONT BE NEEDING LAPTOP IN 1ST YEAR AT LEAST. THE USE OF LAPTOP ARE BASICALLY FROM 2YEAR , ALTHOUGH BEING ON SAFER SIDE YOU SHOULD CARRY IF YOU WILLN  BE LIVING IN A HOSTEL. ELSE THERE IS NO SUCH NEED YOU CAN BORROW AND COMPLETE YOUR WORK TOO. PRACTICE CODINGS IN COLLEGE'S LAB IF YOU DONT HAVE LAPTOP. I THINK IT WILL BE BETTER OPTION AS YOUR TEACHER CAN GUIDE YOU THROUGHOUT.

You will not honestly need a laptop for your acamedics in you 1st semester in CSE because for whole 1st year course will be same for all branches but as now you are from CSE so you should start learning various languages and other courses as in first year you'll have ample time to learn all these so if possible do purchase a laptop and use it efficiently.

Hello Manikant, I'll tell you there's no need for a laptop in the 1st semester even for CS students. you will just need it for 3 or 4 days throughout the 5 months and that too for just making Presntation slides and writing some reports. In my college, this is the story. there's nothing important that you need to carry a laptop in 1st semester. but you will surely need it from 3rd semester onwards because you would be needed to come with individual laptops and you would be doing programming on that. Some colleges have important courses, therefore, they have a policy that you need to bring a laptop in 1st semester, in that case, you have to follow the policy and do what they ask.
