Hi there.
IFS officers receive three months of training at the LBSNAA before moving on to the Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi. Desk attachment in the Ministry divisions comes after the FSI Training. They then relocate to the location of their initial appointment as language trainees. This is the first posting overseas. Depending on the language, it could last between one and two years. While it lasts one year for French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and German, it lasts two years for Japanese and Chinese. Postings are ultimately selected based on the suggestions of the Foreign Service Board, which is presided over by the Foreign Secretary.
