hi Vamshi,
Yes, students at Nift do stitch the clothes they design. A designer must be well versed with Pattern making and Garment construction. Well in the first year which is called Foundation programme the student learn about drawing, materials and mediums also elements and principles of design which are the basic subjects for any design stream.
If u opt for Fashion, Textile and Knitwear departments, u will learn all the garment construction subjects from draping, patterns, grading and sewing. This is very important for fashion design students as their core subject to make new designs and silhouettes. While in Textile and Knitwear, fabric development is concentrated more than designing clothes.
Also the students in B.ftech will also learn about making clothes as their one of the main subjects are garmnent construction and Apparel technology. Accessory and Leather design student not only sew the fabrics, but also Leather. They need more hands on skills and workmanship in sewing and stitching.
You will learn to make clothes from each and every category from womenswear, menswear and childrenswear. In Knitwear design Department, you will learn sportswear and Lingerie in addition. You will aslo learn about surface embellishment where u will have embroideries, patch work, Appliquè.
As a designer, one can make designs which are path breaking yet prcatical only when they know about what goes in making clothes from the sourcing of the fabrics to complete finsihing of the garment. Design students should have knowledge about concepts, design process, skill based and technical subjects that deal with textiles and garments.
They are many designers round the world who made thier name because of their pattern making Techniques and dress making skills. Haute couture is big thing in Fashion industry where the garments are sold only because of the intricate, flawless sewing and finishings.
Student need to stitch and it's important for them.
i hope this gives you better understanding.
All the best.
Hello Vamshi,
What students study in FD (fashion design) is more of practical knowledge in which you'll basically learn how to make patterns of your garments and stitch them, but apart from that, you'll be having other theory subjects also.
In the first year is called the foundation program and foundation program technology. All the designing students will be divided into batches and will be studying the same subjects as fashion orientation, digital design, geometry, art & design aesthetics etc. But as soon as they enter into their respective department they'll have their core and department related subjects.
B.Des in design has the following courses:-
- Fashion Design
- Accessory Design
- Textile Design
- Fashion Communication
So, whether you will have stitching work or not or if you do then how much will be decided based on your stream.
