As such, every institution has its own rules and a concrete answer depends on the NIT you are joining.

However, most of the NITs ask for the income certificate for every financial year to verify your EWS category . Also it is needed to apply for various scholarships and programmes.

There are also separate provisions for refund of tuition fee based on the annual income of your family : you do not have to pay the entire tuition fee if the income is below 1LPA and pay only one-third of the tuition fee for annual income between 1-5 LPA.

Please go through the administrative rules of your institution for better clarity.

Firstly congratulations you have taken admission in nit. Hoping for your better future ahead. See you just have to submit your category certificate one time at the process of admission. But again if in the case you are applying for some scholarship then you have to again show the certificate might they ask for you to get the new certified or say recent certified one. Otherwise no need according to me.
