Does 12 marks matters for giving CAT exam ?
Well it matters but it don't really matter a lot.
Confused ? Well let me clear you out. 12 marks are not the only criteria to get a seat in top iim and other b schools. But it doesn't mean that if your 12 marks are not good then you get a seat for sure.
Candidates are first shortlisted on the basis of the CAT cut-off percentiles, sectional as well as overall, along with past academic record and work experience. After the shortlist, the candidates are called for WAT- PI rounds conducted by each of the IIMs. The selection at this round is based on the performance at each stage of the round with assessment on past academic records, work experience, co-curricular activities and diversity factors (if applicable). Each parameter is assigned a particular weight-age on the basis of which the final merit list is prepared. The parameters and their weights vary with each of the IIMs.
This is the process and I am giving you one link in which table related to 12 marks are given.

I wish you all the best.
Cheers !!
It happens after the results when the MBA institutes release their shortlist for further rounds of selection including the personal interviews and writing ability tasks.
For some institutes it matters while preparing the final shortlist which includes the score of 10th, 12th, Graduation, PI and WAT process, CAT score and diversity scores.
All the best!
Sayyed, IIM Raipur
For taking CAT it does not matter. But for getting an interview call and converting calls, IIMs will consider 12 scores. The weight might change from IIM to IIM.
