Does BITSAT have negative marking scheme?
The BITSAT 2018 paper had a total of 150 questions from all 4 sections.
Physics and Chemistry had 40 questions each, while English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning carried 15 and 10 questions respectively. The maximum question in the paper (45) was from Mathematics section.
All questions were objective in nature wherein the candidates had to choose 1 correct answer out of the 4 answer options available.
There was no time limit to attempt any section, thus, candidates could take up any question any time from anywhere from any of the 4 sections and follow rest of the questions later.
Each correct answer was given 3 marks, while for each incorrect response, the candidates was awarded -1 which means that the entrance exam had negative marking. Therefore, candidates had to be very careful in choosing the answer options. A guesswork would have been highly disadvantageous for them. For unattempted questions, no marks or zero marks were given.
If candidates were able to answer all 150 questions within the given 3 hours (without skipping any question), then they could attempt an additional 12 questions (four each from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry only), however, they were not able to make any changes in the 150 questions they have attempted earlier.
Candidates must note that the questions in BITSAT paper were randomly selected from a large question bank. Thus, candidates got different question sets. An expert committee ensured that the question sets were of comparable difficulty level, content, question type etc.
The question paper of BITSAT 2018 was designed in a manner that an average candidate was able to complete it within the given 3 hours, while a sharp candidate would have got the opportunity to take extra 12 questions. This gave brilliant candidates the opportunity to score high.
BITSAT has following marking scheme:
+3 for a correct answer and -1 mark as a penalty for wrong answer.
Just aim to get at least 300 in BITSAT exam to get a seat in BITS.
