I understand your concern about the necessity of class 10th marks.

Let me firstly tell you the necessity of marks secured in class 10th. As you know that many prestigious school focus on the marks secured by students in class 10th for the admission in class 11th and class 12th. Even some high performance schools, place a barrier of qualifying marks for admission to higher classes.

When we talk about Admission to colleges, Class 10th marks seem to be more important as these are the basic criteria of selecting students for college studies. Some college do set a qualifying marks criteria for taking admission.

You might have heard about many entrance exams held every year.

Some entrance exam have merit based selection process. This may cause trouble to those who have secured less marks , i.e, below 70% .

As far as job is concerned, class 10 th marks won't be much mattering, because now-a-days most of the jobs are being provided by checking the compatibility of the aspirant by taking many exams. Some entrance exams are followed by an interview in which you are demanded to show your class 10th certificate. In these types of interviews you have to give an explanation of securing low marks such as below 35%.

Now it's up to you to secure marks but if you are not good at securing high percentage marks, try to secure an average marks around 60-80 which is not bad at all. This range may help you crossing every hurdle whether job or college/ university admissions.

As far as job is concerned, then don't worry about your marks, your 10th marks doesn't plays a very significant role while going for a job interview. Though if you have scored really bad like 40 percent then you just need to give a reason to justify your low score or percent. Private companies or firms looks for the guy who has talent, skills and Experience in the relevant job field, if you have these kind of things then you can easily compensate your low score.

Now coming to the Colleges, yes, your 10th marks plays the most significant role when it comes to admission in 12th. If you have not scored a certain percent, it depends upon college to college and university to University, then you would be able to take admission in that Institute. You can't even fill the application form of entrance exam of that University. Marks are very very important when it comes to taking admission.
