Hi Reader,
Admissions to both NITs and IITs take place on JOSAA portal after the conclusion of JEE Advanced result. Additionally IITs don't have any spot round since seats get filled completely by Round 6. NITs/IIEST Shibpur/IIITs have an extra round of CSAB after the conclusion of JOSAA counselling.
Greetings!!
The counselling for IIT takes place once a student gives JEE mains, they clear the cut off to appear for JEE advanced and score a good rank in JEE Advanced, then the counselling for IIT takes place, however for NIT, IIIT'S the counselling procedure starts after JEE mains results, thus for counselling in IIT you need to get a good rank in JEE advanced and then you can get admission in IIT , however if you don't meet the cut off to appear for JEE advanced then in this case your JEE mains rank will be taken into consideration for helping you to get a seat into IIT, NIT and other engineering colleges which accept JEE mains score , other wise there are separate entrance examination for colleges for ex: BITSAT for admission in 3 BITS campus across India, while VITEEE for admission in VIT.
