GATE is the gateway for PSU and Mtech courses in major colleges in India. The GATE exam was started in the year 1987. Since then the concept based on which questions asked is same. However the papern has changed several time.
Here is the exam pattern from 1987
1987- 2002: Objectives and Conventional Questions
From 2003 - 2013: Objective Questions with multiple choices
2014 onwards: Objective Questions with multiple choices and Numerical Answers Questions without options.
As can be seen the pattern changes.
Questions in GATE are conceptual, numerical. Although sometimes the previous year questions are reframed and asked again in the next year exam.
