Yes, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) do offer financial assistance to the PhD students in the form of various assistantships and stipends. Given below is the institute wise financial help offered to research scholars:
- IIT Delhi : The full-time doctoral programme students will receive a financial aid. Such students are required to do academic duty for 8 hours per week (excluding their research work) as a Teaching Assistant. Fellowship is extended for the fifth year, only on the basis and review of the work. Students will be provided with financial support for attending national and international conferences.
- IIT Madras : Financial support will be provided for PhD students of Rs. 37,000 per month for first two years and, Rs. 42,000 per month for next three years.
- IIT Kanpur : Financial assistance is provided in the form of teaching or research assistantships to PhD students. Assistantships are awarded up to a maximum of five years. Some financial assistantships may also be available in the form of research assistantships from sponsored research projects. Additional assistantships in the form of scholarships, fellowships, etc. may be available through other organizations.
- IIT (ISM) Dhanbad : Financial Assistance is provided to the full-time PhD students for attending international conferences, where the submitted abstract/ paper should be accepted for oral presentation.
