No, to get admission in NITs you don't need to appear in JEE advanced examination
This is because,
Admission in NITs completely on the basis of your rank obtained by you in JEE main examination. You need to clear the jee advanced if you want to get admission in IITs
And if tell you about rank required,
To get a seat in nits if you are from general category you should try to get at least a rank of 45000 to 50000 in jee main.
For example,
Under other state quota , closing rank for some of the nits for which closing rank goes low are listed below along with their closing rank in the 6th round of josaa counselling 2020 for general category :-
National Institute of Technology Sikkim, Civil Engineering :- 47412
National Institute of Technology, Mizoram, Civil Engineering:- 49757
National Institute of Technology Agartala, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering :- 50,010

No, if you are seeking admission in B.Tech courses offered by NITs then there is no need to appear for JEE-Advance because admission to NITs for their B.Tech courses are only conducted on the basis of JEE-Main score. Let us discuss some latest updates on JEE-Main and JEE-Advance 2021 ;-
** As of now only two sessions of JEE-Main have been successfully conducted and two sessions are still remaining which will be conducted when the situation due to this pandemic become normal.
** If you are appearing for class 12th this year then also you can appear for JEE-Main 2021 or if you had passed your class 12th in 2019/2020 then also you are eligible for it.
** You should have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combination as your class 12th subjects.
** This year 75% criteria of class 12th for admission to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs or to appear for JEE-Advance has been waived off in the wake of this pandemic, so now if you are just passed in all the subjects of class 12th then also you are eligible for admission to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs and for JEE-Advance if you qualify JEE-Main 2021
