Does transpiration serve any useful function in plant? Explain.
Hi,
I hope you are doing well.
Yes, transpiration is very much essential in plants. It is the process of evaporation of water from plants. It happens through stomata present in the leaf surface. This process helps plants to supply water from roots to top parts of plants thereby distributing water to all parts of the plant
- It helps in regulation of temperature .
- It helps in absorption & upward movement of water & minerals dissolved in it from roots to the leaves.
- It affects climate .
Cooling effect of trees is due to this process
With the help of this movement the water and minerals from the soil moves to different parts of plants. It also keeps the cell turgid.
There are three types of transpiration in plants
Stomatal
Lenticles
Cuticular.
