To get placed in software companies, a student needs to learn a programming language, data structures and algorithms, software testing, database management, operating system, etc. It does not matter whether you belong to Ece or not. Some software companies allow students from other branches like Ece or Electrical to sit in their placement process.

If a student from another branch wants a job in an IT company, he/she should know the subjects required along side with their own branch's syllabus.

EEE and ECE both have electronics part in their curriculum, that is why they are considered similar. They are different in many ways though.
