An elephant may live up to 70 years but there are a lot of factors that govern their life span. Also different species of elephants gave different life spans. Elephant's generally have a long life time but the conditions in which an elephant lives also matters a lot. An elephant under domestication lives longer than when it is in the forest. Estimates of the average life span of an elephant vary from 40 to 65 years. The extreme life span of the animal might exceed even 75 years. Among mammals, only humans have a life expectancy longer than that of elephants.
