Even though the campus of govt engg college , Barton hill is small will I be able to enjoy my college lyf there. Is it good to join there
I studied in Government Engineering College, Barton Hill. From being known as the ‘other’ government college in Trivandrum, it has come to earn a place for itself. When the college took off, there was a major infrastructure issue. For the first 10–12 years, the labs were located at CET. The buildings were maintained as such and for the students in EEE, Mechanical every lab session was a long, arduous journey to CET.
It has come a long way since then. There are excellent labs for all departments. If your area of subject is IT, you wouldn’t have to worry about the infrastructure. The faculty list can be found on the college website. Across the years, it has been noticed that core companies come for Mech and IT, as compared to the other fields. I don’t have the list right now but will edit as soon as I get more info. The highest pay package offered in my year (2014) was 6 CTC by Airwatch.
I would also suggest that you look out for startups which look out for freshers. The college gives you ample exposure to tech symposiums, guest sessions. The IEEE, CSI, ISTE student branches are very active and promoted by the college. Joining one of these and actively participating would be a great start.
