Everyone says that there is no/less scope for mech. Engg. Is this true that there are no jobs left for mechanical engineers?

hello

scope for mechanical engineering depends on the college from which you are pursuing that course. If you are studying the branch from an IIT/NIT and other good colleges THERE would be a lot of private companies and psu visiting your campus and offering good salary whereas there are very few companies visiting the campus in not so good colleges. so mechanical is an evergreen branch and the demand of skilled mechanical engineers is always there.
