Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram (IIITDM Kancheepuram) is an Institute which was established  by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to pursue design and manufacturing oriented engineering education, research and to promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets.

The Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in Design and Manufacturing curriculum is designed to provide advanced theoretical and practical training of all aspects relevant to the design, development and production of modern electronic systems and subsystems.  The B.Tech Electronic and Communication Engineering program supplements the existing ECE curricula with design aspects from Electrical, Electronics, Control and Instrumentation Engineering.

Including the above information , this also contains various laboratories which boosts the learning process. State of the art laboratories train students both in software and hardware in the areas of Analog and Digital Circuits, Control Systems, Instrumentation Systems, Industrial Drives, VLSI, Embedded Systems, Digital Signal Processing Systems and Multilayer PCB Design.

Coming to the placement process of this university, it is very flexible and student friendly. This university not only trains the students through various activities along the curriculum but it also makes students capable of getting placed in the top companies .

The number of companies visit this university in a year on an average is 54.And the highest package for student till date includes 55lakh/annum.

The placement procedure include :

• Placement Cell (nodal point for placements at IIITDM Kancheepuram), assisted by student representatives, sends invitation to companies along with relevant information and documents - Placement Brochure (http://iiitdm.ac.in/placement/resources/Brochure.pdf) , Employer Registration Form (ERF), etc.
• A company can also show interest in recruiting IIITDM Kancheepuram students by contacting Placement Cell, IIITDM Kancheepuram by writing to placement@iiitdm.ac.in, stating intent to visit IIITDM Kancheepuram campus for recruitment. ERF can also be downloaded from our Training & Placement website.
• After receiving filled in ERF and relevant information from a company T&P Cell will reply within 2-3 working days through email. The dates for campus interviews are allotted on the basis of information provided in ERF. It is expected that correct and complete information is provided by companies in ERF.
• Suitable date for the Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) is decided by the discussions between the companies and the T&P Cell. After confirmation from the companies, students are notified of the PPT date. However, PPT and recruitment process can also go together.
• Interested students will register for a particular company online through an internal website or by hard copies. After the dead line, the information will be forwarded to companies.
• Companies are required to send the list of short listed students by email to the T&P Cell prior to the campus visit for final interviews.
• The companies visit the campus for placements on the allotted dates and conduct Group Discussions/Aptitude test/Technical test/Personal Interviews etc., as part of their preferred selection procedure.
• The companies are expected to furnish the final list of selected students on the same day after the selection procedure is completed. This will enable the Institute by not allowing the selected students to the companies visiting at later dates.
• The ERF provides the primary basis of communicating the details of the positions offered by the company to the candidates. It is therefore, highly desirable that the form is completed in all respects.
• The decision regarding the dates is on the discretion of the T&P cell. Companies are expected to strictly adhere to the time and dates slots allowed to them. Any change must be notified in advance.
• Please note that the facility of video conferencing is available at the campus and can be availed for the purpose of interviewing candidates in case the company is unable to visit the campus.

- approx. 5.5 lacs total course fees

- Average placement package for ECE graduates 5-7 lacs per annum

- major hiring companies - Automatic Infotech, CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants, Comm Vault Systems

IIITDM Kancheepuram (pros)

- Great infrastructure

- Active student body and good exposure level

- Research and project opportunities are good

Cons:

- Average internship and placements

- average hostel facilities

- far from Chennai railway station (about 48 kms)

Over all the college is pretty well reviewed and rated by the current ECE branch students as well as graduates. If you are able to find great ECE related internship opportunities on your own then you can definitely get placed with a good package.( last year the highest package for an ECE student was 51 lacs per annum)

IIITDM Kancheepuram has excellent infrastructure, research facilities, faculty and outlook for almost all branches. Secondly being near IT and Industrial hubs at Chennai and Bangalore as well as Top research institutes like IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and NIT Trichy further provide impetus to training and placement prospects.

As far as ECE is concerned, the curriculum is quite structured. There were more than 80% placements in ECE last year, with TCS, Adobe, GE, Samsung, IBM, HCL being some of the major recruiters.
