The discipline of science (or engineering) that deals with the study of the universe is known as space science or space technology. All of these areas were once believed to be part of astronomy.

However, important sub-fields of astronomy, such as astrophysics, have grown so substantially in recent years that they are now regarded independent fields. Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Stellar Science, and Planetary Science are some of the sub-branches of Space Science.

Eligibility:-

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) accepts students based on their performance in the Joint Entrance Examination held by the IITs. Candidates who have been placed on the IIT JEE extended list are eligible to apply in the first round.

Candidates who have received an IIT JEE Rank will be allowed to apply in the second round (after IIT seat counselling is completed), assuming they have not yet chosen an IIT seat. For admissions counselling, a composite merit list based on the foregoing will be prepared.

10+2 Science with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is the minimum educational requirement for admission to IIST's bachelor's degrees in Space Science.
