You actually have college rankings becoming a business in itself. Lots of publications around the country and not just in India but outside India also have gotten into college rankings because they think that is one way of revenue monetization. For them, college ranking is to increase their revenue and any college ranking which bases itself on perception and not on actual data (By actual data, I mean the data which is submitted to government authority) is most likely to be wrong. So, you should trust college rankings as long as it is a part of NIRF. NIRF is the National Institutional Ranking Framework that the government of India has started. Here every data that is submitted by the college or University is on the affidavit. It can be verified, if it is false/wrong then they will be penalised.
So, firstly, go for NIRF ranking
Secondly, there is a rating out of 4 which is called the NAAC rating. NAAC gives scores from a total of 4 and they also give ratings. NAAC is a very good measure for you.
If you have any two of these with you then you can go ahead.
Careers360, while ranking a college, also gives NIRF and NAAC ratings. That is we stand scrutiny for the kind of information and for the kind of ranking that we have done. At Careers360, we don't go by perception in our ratings and we also ensure that along with our ranking we also give you the NIRF ranking so that you can have a relative comparison.
So, you can go for
1) NIRF ranking
2) NAAC rating
3) careers360 rating
I suggest Careers360 rating because the rating we do is for a larger number of institutions and that is very important for me. If I do not have a larger number of institutions then I will get into a problem myself because NIRF and all do very few whereas Careers360 does a larger number of ratings. The challenge is always this that you need to ensure that there are more students seeking advice from people like us and if we confined us to top 100 or 200, there are a lot of people who would not be able to get there and they would be deprived of evaluating many options which are not meant for them or which are meant for them but they can't fit in so, we have tried to rate as much as 600- 1000 institutions because the spread has to be higher.
We ensure that every student has some kind of option for himself.
So, look at NIRF ranking, NAAC rating and Careers360 rating because all three rely only on objective data.
