GATE Pattern includes the number of questions, types of questions, and the marking schemes for all the 29 papers/subjects for the exam. Candidates who wish to appear for GATE exam should familiarize themselves with the GATE paper pattern, entire syllabus and of course marking schemes.
There will be total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions will carry a total of 15 marks for the General Aptitude (GA) section. For papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF, and XE, the General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics section will carry 28% of the total marks.
As per the GATE Exam pattern, the General Aptitude (GA) section will carry 15% of the total marks and the subject of the paper will constitute for remaining 72% of the total marks.
For papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks, and the subject of the paper will constitute the remaining 85% of the total marks.
The marking scheme for all the questions will be worth 1 or 2 marks. For 1/2 marks of MCQ type question there is a negative marking scheme of 1/3 and 2/3 respectively. And there's no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type questions. Hope this will help you.
