If you are planning to pursue Mtech in India and are confused between GATE or GRE, then you must inquire about the which test is accepted in the university of your choice. Not many universities in India accept GRE for Mtech. Except for this, GRE and GATE differ majorly when it comes to structure of question paper. I came across helpful blogs on GRE (https://leverageedu.com/blog/gre/) and GATE (https://leverageedu.com/blog/gate-exam/) do given them read.

Hi Rakesh,
GATE is the best for those who wanted to study in the IIT's and GRE is best for the students who want to pursue their Master's abroad. For M.Tech in India GATE is best. For MS in other countries GRE is best...

Good Luck!
Competition is little in GRE than in GATE. Also the question paper is easier in Gate than in GRE. This decision will be completely your to choose your place of study. If you wish to study abroad and can afford it, then you should surely go for GRE.
However, if you are planning to stay in India and complete your MTech in India then you have sit for GATE. With GATE, you can also get into various PSUs and Government jobs. It is not necessary that if you applied GATE, you have to study MTech.
I would recommend GATE. However, the choice still remains yours.
