The syllabus for GATE civil engineering is given below with topics under each section
Section 1:
- General aptitude : ( common for all subjects)
- Numerical ability : numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation
- Verbal ability : English grammar, verbal analogies and vocabulary
- Engineering mathematics : linear algebra, calculus, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, probability and statistics, numerical methods.
Section 2 :
- Structural engineering : Engineering mechanics,system of forces, impulse momentum, solid mechanics, bending moment and shear force, structural analysis, construction materials and management, project planning, cost estimation, concrete structures, design of beams, slabs and columns, steel structures, design of tension and compression members.
Section 3 :
- Geotechnical engineering : soil mechanics, soil structure, permeability, seepage, consolidation, foundation engineering, stress distribution in structure, footing and foundation design.
Section 4 :
- Water resources engineering : fluid mechanics, flow in pipes,kinematics of flow, hydraulics, speed of pumps and turbines, hydrology, irrigation engineering, design of canal regulatory, cross drainage structures, outlets and escapes.
Section 5 :
- Environmental engineering : water and waste water, air pollution, air pollution control standards and units, municipal solid wastes, transportation of solid waste and management, noise pollution.
Section 6 :
- Transportation engineering : transportation infrastructure, highway alignment, geometric design of railway tracks, design of airport, highway pavements, design of pavements, flexible pavement and rigid pavement, traffic engineering, traffic Studies on flow, speed and travel time.
Section 7 :
- Geomatics engineering : principles of surveying, errors and adjustment, levelling and trigonometric levelling, total station,photo grammetry, remote sensing, geographical information systems, geographical positioning system.
