genetic engineering is best or biotechnology is best

Hloo..
Accordingly,Bio-Technology is a research oriented science, a combination of Biology and Technology. It covers a wide variety of subjects like Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, Chemistry and Engineering. It can be studied as a BSc and MSc programmes (a few universities also offer five-year integrated B.Tech /M.Tech Dual Degree Programmes after 10+2 Science) and also as a B.Tech and M.Tech courses.
Biotechnology as a subject has grown rapidly. And as far as employment is concerned, it has become one of the fast growing sector. Bio-technologists can find careers with pharmaceutical companies, chemical, agriculture and allied industries. They can be employed in the areas of planning, production and management of bio-processing industries.
Alternatively, they may find employment in specialised biotechnology companies or biotech-related companies such as pharmaceutical firms, food manufacturers, aquaculture and agricultural companies. Companies that are engaged in business related to life sciences (ranging from equipment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, etc) also consider a biotech degree relevant to their field. The work scope can range from research, sales, marketing, administration, quality control, breeders, technical support etc.; Armed with this powerful combination of fundamental cell and molecular biology and applied science, graduates are well placed to take up careers in plant, animal or microbial biotechnology laboratories or in horticulture, food science, commerce and teaching.
Career options
As there is increasing popularity and explosive growth, there is plenty of opportunities available in Biotechnology field. You can be a Research Scientist, Teacher, Marketing manager, Science Writer, Bioinformatists, Quality Control Officer or Production in-charge in the Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industry. Analyst (Venture-Capitalist)Environmental / Safety Specialist .
Biotechnology companies require Corporate Executives with business/management Degrees. A graduate in Biotechnology can get job in government sectors such as Universities and Colleges, Research institutes or at Private Centres as Research scientists/assistants.
On the other hand, genetic engineering concerned with deliberate manipulation of the genetic material (DNA) of a living organism by artificial methods. The study of genetic engineering involves insertion of new genetic material at an unspecified location in the host genome by isolating and copying the genetic material of interest using molecular cloning methods to generate a DNA sequence containing the required genetic elements for expression, and then inserting this construct into the host organism.
Other methods consist of gene targeting and knocking out exact genes via engineered nucleases. The field of genetic engineering studies how traits and characteristics of an organism are transmitted through the generations, and how genetic disorders are caused.
Genetic Engineering is also concerned with developing hybrid varieties of plants, making plants disease resistant. Genetic engineering techniques are used in research, biotechnology, and medicine.
Most institutes do not offer courses in Genetic Engineering as a special discipline but as a subsidiary in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry streams. There are very few colleges in India that offer Genetic Engineering in undergraduate level. While choosing a graduate level course, a student should not narrow down the career options. The passage of graduation years adds to our self understanding and we get a clear picture about what career we want to choose for ourselves.
So Ill suggest you to pursue your graduation in biotechnology and then pursue Genetic Engineering in post graduate level.
Hope this helps!

Hello Aspirant
.
Both branches are good but as per previous years trends biotechnology is good and fast growing sector compare to genetic engineering.
Bio-Technology is an research oriented science.
It is a combination of Biology and Technology. It may also covers a wide variety types of subjects such as Genertics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology and Engineering.
.
It can also be studied in different ways like as a BSc and MSC programmes and also as a B.techand M.tech course's.
Biotechnology as a subject has grown rapidly.
.
Here in this course as far as employment is concerned, it is also becoming one of the fast growing sector. A bio-technologist can find careers in different feilds like pharmaceuticalemical, and allied industries etc.you also find career in agriculture field.
.
You can be a research scientist, teacher , marketing manager, writer.(career opportunities).
.
Genetic engineering:
Genetic Engineering is concerned with deliberate manipulation of the genetic material (DNA) of a living organism by artificial method's.
.
Other methods are also there such as gene targeting and knocking out genes with another process like engineered nucleases.
.
This genetic Engineering is a sub domain of biotechnology. I would like to suggest you to take for biotechnology for good academics and job opportunities.
.
If you have any questions further let me know.
.
Thank you!!!
