There are basically two types of seats in almost every college. RESERVED and OPEN(GENERAL). If you have a category rank then your category rank will be considered for the reserved seats. Similarly, if you are a general candidate your general rank will be considered.

In a normal scenario, there are approx. 27% of seats reserved for OBC in colleges. So you will be eligible for counseling on those with your category rank.

Counselling is done on the basis of the general rank. You will get benfits due to in OBC category. As cutoff is different for each category. But counselling is done on the basis of general rank so you must have good general rank. As cutoff varies for each category. As cutoff vary from year to year. It also depends on the number of students appeared in the exam and the level of paper whether it is easy , moderate or difficult. So go through it properly and do your counselling properly.
