Hello,
Public colleges and universities are higher education institutions that are mainly funded by state governments, whereas private colleges and universities rely on student tuition fees, alumni, and endowments to fund their academic programs.
Private colleges can be either for-profit or non-profit. For-profit colleges are run like businesses and are most concerned with generating a profit, while nonprofit private colleges focus entirely on providing students with a quality education. As a result, nonprofit colleges generally boast better reputations than for-profit schools.
The decision to study in a government or a private college should be made after judging some of the basic criteria. First of all, prepare a list of both Government and private colleges where your desired course is available. Once you have prepared the list then you can see the affiliation of these colleges and their university ranking, mostly QS ranking is preferred. Thereafter, shortlist the ones with higher rank and check the cut -off as well as other admission requirements.
The second stage is selecting the college as per the financial capability. Private colleges have comparatively high fee structure and some additional expenditure such as membership charges, etc. Government colleges are affordable and also consider relaxation as per government norms- such as fee concession to economically weaker students who can produce valid certificates. This might not be the case with private colleges.
But the thing is there is more practical exposure in private college compare to government college. So, if you looking for practical exposure you can go with private college.
Some other pointers for selecting between a government and private college are location and transport facilities, canteen, college surroundings, nature of crowd.
At last, it is the student who has to be an active learner. No institution is perfect in all aspects. It is the student who has to learn the art of converting the available resources into opportunities and do well.
Good luck!
