Yes, you can take a year off and prepare for JEE Main and JEE Advanced after passing in class 12th as a private candidate. You can appear for JEE Main or three consecutive years from the year of passing in the qualifying examination that is 10+2 and you can appear for JEE Advanced for two consecutive years from the year of passing in the qualifying examination. If you pass in class 12th in the year 2022 you can apply for JEE Main 2022, JEE Main 2023 and JEE Main 2024. And you can apply for JEE Advanced 2022 and JEE Advanced 2023 provided you must have qualified in JEE Main 2022 and JEE Main 2023 respectively. As you wish to take a year off you will be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2023 and JEE Main 2024 only and if you qualify in JEE Main 2023 you will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2023.
