Hello, I had a doubt regarding getting a seat in the NIT or IIT. At present, Iam studying 12th standard in T.S ( Telangana). Sir Due to the pandemic I lost 2 subjects in my 11th and State Government has passed us with minimum Marks. So, Can I get a seat in NIT/IIT if I get 80% in 12th with JEE ?

Yes, if you get 80 % in 12th , then you are  definitely eligible for  admission in both NITs and IITs . It doesn't matter even if you have passed your 11th with just qualifying marks

This is because,

The minimum percentage requirement in class 12th to be eligible for admission in NITs and IITs for St category is 65% in class 12th.

Admission in NITs is through jee main and admission in IITs is on the basis of rank obtained by you in JEE advanced so eligibility criteria of both JEE main and their advantage given below for your reference

Jee main eligibility criteria is given below-

---------------------------) Qualification required :- to be eligible  for JEE mains you need 10+2/equivalent qualification from a recognised board.

-------------------------) Passing year :- one is eligible for JEE main examination for consecutive three years starting from the year of appearing for 12th /equivalent examination i. e to be eligible  for JEE mains 2022 you should be either appearing for 12th board exam or equivalent  in 2022 or should have passed it in 2021 or 2020

-------------------------) There is no age limit to be eligible

-------------------------) there is no minimum percentage requirement to be eligible for JEE Main.

But yes,

To be eligible for NITs , IIITs, CFTIs one needs at least 75% marks in class 12th if belongs to General or OBC category  or at least 65% marks in class 12th if belongs to Sc or St category or needs to be in top 20 percentile of their board examination. This minimum percentage barrier in 12th was lifted off for the year 2021 i. e jee main 2021, if lifted again for jee main 2022 , then NTA will notify about it.

J EE  advanced eligibility criteria is given below :-

5 Subjects to be considered for calculating aggregate percentage are :-

• Physics

• Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.

• Any subject other than listed above

††† IMPORTANT NOTE:- For Jee advanced 2022 , it has been recently notified that those who missed Jee advanced 2020/2021 are eligible for jee advanced   2022 means those passed 12th in 2020  but missed jee advanced 2020/2021 are also eligible for jee advanced 2022.This decision has been taken considering the covid pandemic. -----------------------) There is upper age limit, according to which to be eligible for jee advanced 2022, you should be born on or after 1st October 1997. There is 5 years of age relaxation for SC, ST and PwD so candidates of SC/ST /PWD needs to be  born on or after October 1, 1992.
